 Business Development Executive

As a rapidly expanding non-profit organisation, we’re looking for an experienced business development professional or someone who is involved in business and enterprise and would like to learn more about science and the pharma industry.

You will be working together in close partnership with the Business Development Manager and the rest of the executive team to build strategic alliances, fundraise and grow our portfolio of new partners and stories.

The role is very dynamic, juggling multiple portfolios of work and owning the outcomes. We’re after someone who would want to build and grow the company alongside the current team, making valuable contributions not only to the business development department but the organisation as a whole.

Responsibilities:

As a business development manager, with the support of the WATT team you will be responsible for:

  • identifying new business opportunities, including new markets, growth areas, sponsors/clients/users and services

  • seeking out the appropriate contacts in an organisation

  • generating leads and cold call prospective sponsors/clients/users

  • meeting with sponsors/clients face to face or over the phone

  • understanding the needs of your customers and being able to respond effectively with a plan of how to meet these

  • negotiating pricing with sponsors and suppliers in some cases

  • thinking strategically – seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business

  • working strategically – carrying out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes

  • drafting sponsor/client contracts in partnership with the board

  • having a good understanding of the businesses’ services and being able to advise other team members

  • ensuring efficient communication across the team

  • managing the team (if appropriate)

  • training members of your team

  • discussing promotional strategy and activities with the marketing department

  • liaising with the finance team and the board

  • seeking ways of improving the way the business operates

  • attending conferences, seminars, events where/if appropriate

  • keeping abreast of trends and changes in the business world (gender diversity/life sciences)
