Because only 14% of applicants to Innovate UK funding competitions were women, Innovate UK launched Women in Innovation awards in May 2016. Winners receive £50,000 and a tailored business support package. As a result, the number of female applicants for Innovate UK funding has increased by 10%.
Together with Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), Innovate UK have established Building Success webinar series to provide a convenient way for women innovators to access knowledge and expertise on a number of key business areas.
Innovate UK has also launched a community for Women in Innovation on WorldLabs, an innovative platform designed to support and encourage entrepreneurial growth. WorldLabs connect individuals, start-ups, accelerators, universities, experts, funding bodies, public institutions and large corporations by matching users with the most relevant projects, collaborators, resources and opportunities.
